Attendance Policy - FAA

Time and attendance rules approved by the attendance committee and college policy.

TIME

A record of each student's time in attendance for each class will be maintained on a standard form (Phase Sheet). These forms will be maintained in a student file along with a summary form that will indicate a student's time in attendance, class grade, and semester for each class taken in the program. These records will be maintained for inspection at the request of the FAA. The records will be maintained for a period of at least two years after the completion or separation from the program.

ATTENDANCE

Attendance for the AMT program is more restrictive than the college general attendance policy. Students are required to receive instruction for all FAA topics in the approved curriculum.  A maximum absence of 14 hours or 10 % of the approved 140 hours of curriculum time is allowed. All instructional material missed during the absence must be made up. It is the student’s responsibility to coordinate with faculty to make up any missed time and material outside the normal curriculum hours.  Students exceeding the allowable absences will be afforded an opportunity to appeal their time. However, if time is not granted back student will be required to withdraw or receive an “F” for the course. Attendance will be recorded each day on the Student Phase Sheet. All make-up of missed material will be properly documented on the back of the phase sheet. It is the responsibility of the student to keep track of his or her attendance. The absentee record of the faculty is considered the official FAA record.

When a student must miss class due to guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) or Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH), and the Director or his representative verifies the student is not allowed to come to class, the Attendance Review Panel is not necessary. The Director will not count that missed time as part of the 14 hours of allowed absence.  The instructor will document the time missed and make up tasks on the Phase Sheet. Where possible, the instructor will assign the missed material on the college’s learning management system, Canvas.  If classroom time was missed, often the student can conduct the same training, practicals, or progressives on Canvas.

Students that are not engaged in the learning process, i.e., sleeping, playing games on a cell phone, reading non-class material, etc., will not be given attendance credit for the time they are not engaged.
