Medical Assisting Technology Associate in Applied Science
The Medical Assistant Technology (MAT) program prepares students for employment as medical assistants who perform a broad range of administrative and clinical duties in healthcare settings such as physician offices, clinics, and hospitals. Medical assistants often serve as the first point of contact for patients, gathering patient histories and demographic information while supporting efficient patient flow within the medical office. The program includes instruction in medical office administration, professional communication, medical law and ethics, patient psychology, and basic anatomy and physiology.
Through a combination of classroom, laboratory, and clinical experiences, students develop essential clinical skills including measuring vital signs, assisting with patient examinations, performing routine diagnostic and treatment procedures, administering medications, providing first aid, and completing patient documentation under the supervision of a physician. The MAT program prepares graduates to demonstrate competence in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (professional behavior) learning domains based on the 2022 CAAHEP Standards and Guidelines. Students may earn certifications and/or an Associate of Applied Sciences Degree in Medical Assistant Technology.
