Financial Aid Programs Available at Enterprise State Community College

Federal Pell Grant

The Federal Pell Grant program is the foundation upon which most financial aid packages are based. Federal Pell Grants do not have to be repaid except in cases involving a student’s complete withdrawal from ESCC before attending at least 60% of a given term. Students are paid only after all required documents are received, reviewed, and approved by the Financial Aid Office staff.

A student’s Pell grant award is determined using Enrollment Intensity. The Scheduled Pell Award is the maximum amount a student can receive during the award year if the student attends full-time for a full academic year.

Students at ESCC are paid according to the number of credit hours in which they are enrolled at the end of the College’s official drop/add period. Students will not receive financial aid for any coursework taken outside their program of study.

Below is a chart of enrollment intensity:

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant

FSEOG is similar to the Federal Pell Grant in that it does not have to be repaid except in cases involving a student’s complete withdrawal from ESCC before attending at least 60% of a given term. FSEOG funds are extremely limited and are distributed to the neediest students based on the student’s Student Aid Index. Students are paid once per semester. There is no special application for these funds; completion of the FAFSA is all that is required to apply for FSEOG.

Alabama Student Assistance Program (ASAP)

To be eligible for ASAP, a student must be a resident of Alabama and be able to demonstrate financial need. A student is selected to receive ASAP based on a priority system using the student’s Student Aid Index (SAI). There is no special application for these funds; completion of the FAFSA is all that is required to apply for ASAP.

Federal Direct Loan Program (DL)

Federal Direct Loans and Federal Direct PLUS Loans (for parents of dependent undergraduate students) are low-interest federal loans designed to help students and families cover the cost of attending eligible postsecondary institutions.
To be eligible for a federal loan, students must be enrolled at least half-time (6 credit hours) in an approved program of study, complete Entrance Counseling, and sign a Master Promissory Note (MPN) through StudentAid.gov.
Students enrolled in 6 to 11 credit hours are subject to mandatory loan proration, known as a Schedule of Reduction (SOR), which may result in a reduced federal loan eligibility amount.
For more information about Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans, visit Federal Student Aid Loan Information or contact the Financial Aid Office.
Students may accept, decline, or adjust their loan offers by logging into the MyESCC Student Portal. Borrowing should be considered carefully and used only when necessary. Students are encouraged to borrow only the amount needed to meet their educational expenses.

Federal Work-Study (FWS)

FWS provides jobs for qualified students who have financial need and who desire to earn part of their educational expenses. FWS awards vary widely. FWS students are allowed to work up to nineteen (19) hours per week if they qualify. Currently, student workers are paid $10 per hour and are paid once per month on the last working day of the month. FWS wage rates are subject to change. Students interested in applying for Federal Work-Study should submit a work-study application https://esccf.formstack.com/workflows/federal_work_study_application
