ADM 296 Applied Metrology
This course is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills related to techniques of making dimensional measurements accurately and precisely in a manufacturing environment. Students will focus on using blueprints to correctly set up and verify measurements on parts using tools such as calipers, micrometers, sine bars, surface plates, height gages, test indicators, and optical comparators. Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing and calibration of tools will be stressed, as will selecting the correct tools for the measurements. Data will be analyzed using statistical process control methods on the computer. Coordinate measurement machines will also be covered. Students will demonstrate the skills acquired through hands-on labs by performing measurements, recording data, analyzing statistical data, and correlating the information with part blueprints. Several case studies will take place throughout the semester highlighting the importance of acquiring good data and doing proper analysis.
