Medical Assisting Technology Associate in Applied Science
This program prepares individuals, under the supervision of physicians, to provide medical office administrative services and perform clinical duties including patient intake and care, routine diagnostic and recording procedures, pre-examination and examination assistance, and the administration of medications and first aid. Includes instruction in basic anatomy and physiology; medical terminology; medical law and ethics; patient psychology and communications; medical office procedures; and clinical diagnostic, examination, testing, and treatment procedures. Note that AAS degree, certificate, and short-term certificate programs are not designed to be transfer programs.
To prepare medical assistants who are competent in cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession.
Requirements
Area I: Written Composition (3 Credit Hours)
Select 3 credit hours from:
Area II: Humanities and Fine Arts (3 Credit Hours)
Area III: Natural Science and Mathematics (10 Credit Hours)
Area IV: History, Social, and Behavioral Sciences (3 Credit Hours)
Area V: General Education Core, Technical Concentration, and Electives (47 Credit Hours)
MAT 229 and
MAT 239 may only be attempted after all other MAT courses have been completed.
